What is Cyber-bullying

According to Susan McLean (2014, Cyber Safety Solutions), “Cyberbullying can be described as any harassments, insults and humiliation that occurs through electronic medium such as email, mobile phones, social networking sites, instant messaging programs, chat rooms, web-sites and online games”.

Examples may include, but are not limited to:

  • Flaming - abusive texts and emails;
  • Cyberstalking or repeated harassment – repeatedly sending hurtful messages, images or videos;
  • Impersonation – false pretence - imitating others online;
  • Applying pressure to reveal compromising images;
  • Outing – sharing someone’s secrets, including humiliating others online;
  • Exclusion – intentionally removing or ignoring someone from the online group.
